Consensus Standards are developed by a large number of associations and should not be confused with standards and codes developed by Regulatory agencies. Additionally, some of the Consensus Standards are incorporated into various levels and jurisdictions of regulatory agency developed requirements. These incorporations are specific and limited and need to be closely scrutinized to verify their application. The Consensus Standards listed here are considered the “best practice” for the equipment and is usually more rigorous than regulatory body requirements.
Consensus Standards are commonly referred to as “ANSI Standards” and while this term is commonly understood it is also commonly, and equally, misunderstood. Cranes, Rigging and Forklifts are addressed in the following “ANSI Standards” that are developed under the support of ASME.
